JetBlue says traffic, capacity rose in September

UNITED STATED

JetBlue Airways Corp. said Monday that its September traffic rose 14.6 percent.

The discount airline said it flew 2.20 billion revenue passenger miles during the month, up from 1.92 billion in the same month a year earlier. A revenue passenger mile is one paying passenger flown one mile.

Capacity climbed 10.4 percent to 2.73 billion available seat miles, up from 2.47 billion last year.

Since the company's travel increased more quickly than its capacity grew, its planes were more full. Load factor rose 3 percentage points to 80.6 percent from 77.6 percent.

For the first nine months of the year, traffic rose 8.6 percent to 21.30 billion passenger miles, while capacity rose 6.7 percent to 26.21 billion available seat miles. Load factor rose 1.4 percentage points to 81.2 percent.

JetBlue shares fell 29 cents, or 4.3 percent, to $6.43.
