UNITED STATED
Over the past month, news sites, gossip sites and blogs have been buzzing over Oscar predictions for the March 7th, 2010 82nd Academy Awards. Will Avatar overtake Hurt Locker for Best Picture? Will Quentin Tarantino beat out Jason Reitman for Best Director, and will Matt Damon outdo Christoph Waltz for Best Actor in a Supporting Role? While the Oscars typically mark the end of film award season, nominees who don't go home with the gold, can still go home with the green, as 2010 marks the inaugural year of the Green Globe Film Awards. Billed as "Hollywood's largest celebration of People, Planet and Motion Pictures", the Green Globe Film Awards honors major motion picture, environmental, humanitarian, animated and international filmmakers, movies and actors. With voters from over 100 countries selecting 100 Viewers' Choice Awards, the Green Globes are one of the most diverse of all Hollywood-based film award programs. While the Oscars use a peer-based approach for selecting award recipients, the Green Globe Film Awards' movie viewers' choice approach has gained popularity with blogs, Facebook sites and tweets around the world urging fans to vote for their favorite actors, films and filmmakers. In addition, the 2010 Green Globe Film Awards International Film Category of "Asian Films" has caused a viral effect with Asian movie lovers eagerly asking fellow film fanatics to help Asian filmmakers and actors gain Hollywood recognition.
The Green Globe Film Awards expects an increase in voters as Oscar results from the 82nd Academy Awards are announced, from both fans celebrating Oscar victories, as well as those who disagree with the Oscar results and wish to make their opinion heard.
The Grand Sponsor of the event, the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, will host the Green Globe Film Awards and Emperor's Dreams Dinner Gala on March 23, 2010 with a sit-down dinner banquet and surprise performances by Hollywood's and Asia's top entertainers. Tickets can be purchased from http://www.movie-voters.com and proceeds from the event will go to rebuilding Haiti.
If your favorite actors and filmmakers don't leave the Oscars victorious, you can still make their day on March 23rd at the Green Globe Film Awards by voting for them at http://www.movie-voters.com Voting ends March 15th. (PRNewswire)
